Man found guilty in 2020 Quail Drive shooting sentenced to life in prison without parole

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man who was found guilty of shooting and killing Rod Jones in 2020 in the 2700 block of Quail Drive has been sentenced to life in prison.

Bobby Dawson, 42, was found guilty by a jury on Aug. 1 to first-degree murder and armed-criminal action. He was sentenced on Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole or probation. He was given credit for time served.

Dawson is currently in the Boone County Jail before he heads to the Missouri Department of Corrections.

According to previous reporting, police said in a May 2020 probable cause statement that Dawson took Jones behind a building and shot him while another man, Robert Junior Johnson, held a crowd outside at bay with a gun.

Dawson was eventually arrested in the Kansas City area.
