COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man accused of shooting and killing Rod Jones in 2020 in the 2700 block of Quail Drive has been found guilty of two felonies.

Bobby Dawson, 42, was found guilty by a jury on Tuesday to first-degree murder and armed-criminal action. A sentencing hearing is set for 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at the Boone County Courthouse.

Dawson is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond.

According to previous reporting, police said in a May 2020 probable cause statement that Dawson took Jones behind a building and shot him while another man, Robert Junior Johnson, held a crowd outside at bay with a gun.

Dawson was eventually arrested in the Kansas City area.

Johnson was charged with two counts of unlawful gun possession and has a hearing set for 8:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at the Boone County Courthouse.
