A man accused of shooting another man in October 2022 at a south Columbia roundabout pleaded guilty on Monday to multiple charges.

Derrick Deshun Blackmon, 23, of Columbia, pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon and leaving the scene of a crime. He was sentenced to four years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. He is currently in the Boone County Jail.

He was initially charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and leaving the scene of an accident.

Blackmon also pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon, stemming from an alleged incident from November 2021. He was sentenced to four years in the Department of Corrections and will serve the term consecutively to the charges stemming from the roundabout shooting, totaling eight years.

He was given credit for time served.

The shooting and crash happened Oct. 14 at Nifong Boulevard and Sinclair Road -- the intersection where Woodcrest Chapel Church and Mill Creek Elementary School are located.

A Columbia police officer was sitting in the school parking lot that evening when he heard about four gunshots and found two crashed vehicles -- a silver BMW and a black Ford Fusion -- at the roundabout, according previous reporting.
