Crash again stalls traffic at Jefferson City’s tri-level overpass

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Traffic was restricted Wednesday evening for the second time this week after a crash at the Highway 54/Highway 50 interchange in Jefferson City.

The crash happened a little before 7 p.m. on the Highway 54 East off-ramp to Highway 50 West, according to a Jefferson City Police Department news release. A blue Nissan Rogue took the off-ramp, failed to stop at a sign and hit a blue Saturn that was taking the ramp from Highway 50 East to Highway 54 East, police say.

Police say both vehicles sustained extensive damage but only minor to moderate injuries were reported. The Nissan driver, Justin Roeben, 37, of Sedalia, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The Saturn driver, Shawn Freet, 40, and passenger Brianna Freet, 30, both of Jefferson City, suffered minor injuries.

Their 15-year-old daughter in the back of the car was taken to University Hospital in Columbia with moderate injuries. She was treated and released, a hospital spokesperson said.

Police say traffic was restricted for about 40 minutes.

Police also had to restrict traffic in that area Tuesday after a semi-truck hauling livestock rolled onto its side.
