Woman dies, 6 people hospitalized after boat hits Chicago breakwall and capsizes in Lake Michigan

CHICAGO (AP) — Authorities say a woman died and six other people were hospitalized after a boat struck a Chicago breakwall and capsized in Lake Michigan amid strong winds and high waves. Chicago Deputy District Fire Chief Jason Lach says there was “a huge increase in wind and wave activity” around the time the boat capsized. Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez says the seven boaters were returning to shore about 4 a.m. Friday when their craft hit a breakwall and capsized. He tells the Chicago Sun-Times that a woman did not survive. Police say her body was recovered following a brief search delay due to bad weather.
