Sheriff’s Office: Man accused in Callaway County shooting arrested in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office announced on its Facebook page Thursday night that a man accused in an Auxvasse shooting was arrested in Columbia.

“The Callaway County Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce a significant development in the ongoing search for Damin Davis. After over a week of relentless investigation and following up on numerous leads, law enforcement officers have successfully arrested Davis,” the post reads.

The sheriff’s office says Davis was arrested by the Columbia Police Department at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Callaway County Jail records indicate he was booked in Callaway County at 8:23 p.m. His bond is listed at $17,500, according to jail records.

Damin Davis, 33, is charged with first-degree assault, armed-criminal action, unlawful gun possession, endangering the welfare of a child and fourth-degree domestic assault. A court date has not been set.

A shooting allegedly occurred on East Harrison Street in Auxvasse at about 12:55 p.m. July 2, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Law enforcement searched around Callaway County July 2-3. Law enforcement previously said Davis fled from the scene with his 10-year-old son in a black car. The car was found abandoned in the Stephens area around 4:45 p.m., according to the sheriff. The child was found safe on July 2, according to previous reporting.

The Callaway County Sheriff's Office previously said on its social media that it is seeking additional felony charges against Davis in relation to a different shooting that occurred in June

In another case in Callaway County, Davis is charged with second-degree property damage and second-degree tampering with a motor vehicle. A warrant was issued for failure to appear on June 23. A hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, July 21 at the Callaway County Courthouse.

Davis is also facing felony charges in Boone County. He was charged in May with unlawful gun possession and two counts of third-degree domestic assault. A warrant was issued for failure to appear on June 7. A bond forfeiture hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21.
