COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A pre-trial conference and status for a man accused of killing his wife 17 years ago has been moved to Wednesday, May 24 at the Boone County Courthouse.
Keith Comfort, 41, is charged with second-degree murder. He is being held in the Boone County Jail on a $5 million bond. All motions have to be filed by Friday, May 19, according to Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Sue Boresi.
A jury trial is scheduled for June 12.
Prosecutors say Comfort told police in 2019 that he killed his wife, Meghan Shultz, who he reported missing with the Columbia Police Department on Aug. 5, 2006.
Comfort allegedly told police that when he arrived at the apartment in the 1700 block of Amelia Street in 2006, Shultz was frantic and swinging her arms. Comfort then allegedly strangled Shultz, and when he realized she wasn’t breathing, he put her body in a garbage bag and put it in the dumpster at the apartment complex.
