‘False alarm’ prompts heavy police presence in west Columbia on Sunday morning

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A report of someone being shot early Sunday morning in Columbia turned out to be a false alarm, according to the Columbia Police Department.

An ABC 17 New crew arrived on the 1300 Block of Longwell Drive around 2:30 a.m. where there was an active police presence for an unknown reason.

Columbia police were on the scene negotiating with someone inside. A reporter saw at least six CPD cars and a bearcat armored vehicle surrounding the home. Police began to leave about 45 minutes later.

A sergeant with the Columbia Police Department told ABC 17 News the call was a "false alarm." Everyone in the home was safe, police said.

Police say they will be sending out a press release at a later time.

This is a developing story, we will update as we learn more information.
