Sedalia minor attempts to stab police officer
SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A suspect reportedly attempted to stab a Sedalia Police officer Saturday afternoon.
Officers responded to reports of a robbery in the 800 block of Ruth Ann Drive around 3:45 Saturday afternoon, according to a news release. The report came from an anonymous caller who said they were robbed at gunpoint.
The call was reportedly a setup. According to the news release, the caller reported a fake emergency, hoping to assault officers in a suicide attempt.
The responding officer said he located the suspect walking down the road. The boy, younger than 18, refused to pull his hands out of his hoodie pockets. According to the news release, he then took out a knife and tried to stab the officer.
The news release describes a struggle between the officer and the suspect, as the officer tried to take the knife away. Then a community member, dubbed a "good Samaritan" by the police department, helped the officer hold down the suspect.
With help from the Pettis County Sheriff's Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol, the suspect was taken into custody, transferred to the hospital and then the Missouri Division of Youth Services.
The police officer reportedly has minor injuries from the knife striking his patrol vest.
