Prosecutor won’t file fraud charge against former mayor

BERKELEY, Mo. (AP) — Criminal charges against the former mayor of the St. Louis County town of Berkeley have been dismissed with an agreement that he will never again seek elected office. Theodore Hoskins, now 84, was charged in 2019 with four counts of committing an election offense and one count of forgery. Special Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker in Kansas City took over the case at the request of the St. Louis County prosecutor’s office. Baker said Friday that Hoskins will be allowed to serve out his term on the Berkeley City Council, which ends in 2026.
