Mizzou outfielder named SEC Co-Player of the Week
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou junior Alex Honnold received her first-ever SEC honor on Monday evening, as the conference named her the co-player of the week.
The Tigers went 6-0 on a road trip to Florida over the past week. In that time, Honnold notched a .643 batting average, 1.357 slugging percentages and a .762 on-base percentage. She was 9-for-14 at the plate, overall.
She racked up 19 RBI, nine runs, four doubles and two home runs in the course of just six games. Head coach Larissa Anderson said she was impressed with how Honnold can draw a walk, as well. She earned six walks, including four against Pitt on Friday. The centerfielder was also 4-for-5 on stolen base attempts.
She opened up the week with an impressive stat line too. In Mizzou's win over No. 20 UCF, she was 2-for-2 with a double and a home run.
MU won the Panther Invitational Championship with a victory over Pitt on Sunday afternoon. In that game, Honnold matched her season-best going 3-for-4 at the dish with a pair of doubles and her third home run of the season.
Up next - Honnold and Mizzou will travel to Palm Springs, Calif. to compete in the Mary Nutter Cathedral City Collegiate Classic.
