More candidates file for Jefferson City Council races

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Two more candidates filed to run for a Jefferson City Council seat this week.

Candidate filings opened on Dec. 6 for the April 4, 2023, municipal elections in Missouri. The last day for a candidate to file for this election is Tuesday, Dec. 27. The last day residents can register to vote in the April 4 election is March 8.

Randy Hoselton filed on Friday to run for Ward 1 councilman against the incumbent, Councilman David Kemna. Treaka Young also filed on Wednesday for the Ward 3 council seat. She is running against the incumbent, Councilman Scott Spencer.

In previous filings, Aaron Mealey is running for the Ward 2 seat. Ward 4 Councilman Derrick Spicer is running for reelection, as is Municipal Judge Scott Evans and Prosecutor Gaylin Carver.

Ward 4 Councilman Ron Fitzwater so far is the only candidate who has filed to run for mayor. His current term as councilman expires in 2024.
