COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Police say they found a 36-year-old Columbia man dead in a car at a north Columbia motel late Monday.

Police on patrol saw a running vehicle in the parking lot of Welcome Inn on North Providence Road at about 11:50 p.m. and found Marceino Carlous Moore, 36, unresponsive inside, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.

Moore was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

CPD did not release other information about the shooting, citing the ongoing investigation.

Officers told ABC 17 News at the scene that the victim was found with a gunshot wound to the back of the head.

Police have not identified a suspect.

Police frequently are called to the Welcome Inn. According to dispatch records, Columbia police have been sent to the Welcome Inn 339 times since Dec. 10, 2018. This homicide response marks the 340th time.
