Potholes get worse as more rain hits roadways, according to the experts. Vehicle catches fire in Boone County

Members of the Boone County Fire Protection District responded to a vehicle fire Monday night. Crews were sent to the 7800 block of Highway VV around 7:45 p.m., according to online dispatch records. When fire officials arrived on scene, the vehicle was fully involved in the fire, said Boone County Fire Bureau Director Gale Blomenkamp.

New charge filed in baby’s death

Prosecutors have changed the felony charge against a man accused of causing his baby’s death. An indictment was filed Friday against Cortavia E. Smith charging the Columbia man with child abuse resulting in death. Smith had been charged with second-degree murder.
