COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Temperatures remained below freezing shortly before noon Tuesday, causing state travel authorities to warn of slippery roads in central Missouri.

The Missouri Department of Transportation's online traveler information map showed roads covered or partially covered in the western and northern parts of the area Tuesday after a mix of sleet, snow and other wintry precipitation fell during the morning.

Temperatures in Columbia remained below freezing at 11:30 a.m. The temperature was expected to go above freezing in the afternoon, bringing rain with it. More winter precipitation is expected later this week.

The map showed Interstate 70 was mostly clear in Boone and Cooper counties. Highway 63 was mostly clear through Boone and Cole counties and fully covered through Randolph County, according to the map.

However, highways to the north and west remained partially or fully covered, including highways in northern Boone, Audrain, Cooper and Howard counties.

MoDOT warned travelers about slick highways via social media channels at about 11 a.m.

Police and firefighters were sent to a crash on Highway 63 at Broadway in Columbia just before 11 a.m. where a truck appeared to have rolled over. It wasn't clear if the crash was weather-related.
