Planning and preparing for the winter season
Winter weather preparedness week is drawing to a close, and before the winter season begins, you should know how to stay informed and alert for upcoming storms. It's important to be prepared and have a plan before snow storms arrive.
It takes lots of supplies to be fully geared up for the colder seasons and planning helps avoid any last-minute problems. Supplies should be stocked up at home and for going out on the roads. A good checklist for your car includes a first aid kit, blankets, batteries, flashlights, water and snacks, extra gas, a spare tire, and sandbags or cat litter. The sandbags and cat litter can help provide traction if tires get stuck.
Most importantly you should be aware of the forecast ahead of time to know what is coming. Winter forecasts can be very accurate 3 to 5 days or more out, giving plenty of warning. Missouri typically sees its first snow in early December so there are only a few weeks left to prepare for the upcoming winter weather!
