Tracking a few showers late tonight, warm Monday with overnight storms
TONIGHT: Increasing clouds and breezy with lows in the lower 50s. A few showers or rumbles of thunder developing late, diminishing before sunrise.
TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and breezy with highs in the mid-70s.
EXTENDED: It was a breezy but beautiful Sunday as strong winds shifted to the south, but active weather returns to kick off next week. A cold front centered to our north will slowly migrate south tonight, triggering a chance for overnight showers and a few rumbles of thunder. Activity should diminish before sunrise, and we'll welcome another day in the low to mid-70s Monday. Another round of thunderstorms is possible along the front Monday night, bringing the potential of up to quarter size hail in a couple storms. The overall severe threat Monday night is low. As the front lifts back north as a warm front on Tuesday, gusty winds in the low levels of the atmosphere kick up moisture and increase temperatures into the lower 80s across the region. We'll have a lot of instability to work with, but it appears there may be too much of a warm layer in the lowest section of the atmosphere to get many storms to fire up during the day. If storms do develop, they will pose a risk of severe weather, including large hail and tornadoes. The more likely scenario would be for isolated supercell storms to form near the warm front across northwest Missouri, with more development along the cold front late Tuesday night that would bring a damaging wind threat to Mid-Missouri overnight into Wednesday morning. After storms pass, we'll see cooler temperatures for the rest of the week as highs only reach the 50s, with a drier pattern settling in.
