Tracking another day of extreme heat for your Labor Day weekend

TODAY: I'm tracking yet another hot day, with temperatures still sitting in the low 70s as you walk out the door this morning. By the afternoon, expect low 90s for areas east and north of Columbia, with heat index values nearing 100. For areas west and south of Columbia, mid to upper 90s are expected, with feels-like temperatures still having the potential to break 105 degrees, which is why the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day is continuing throughout this afternoon. Isolated storms will once again become possible during the later afternoon hours, mainly west of Columbia, some of which could pose a risk of stronger winds and small hail.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking the potential for lingering showers and storms to the north of I-70 overnight, but most will remain dry as temperatures begin to cool a bit quicker. By the end of the night, upper 60s are expected as winds blow out of the southeast at 8-12 mph.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking a noticeably cooler forecast for Labor Day, with temperatures by the afternoon hours getting into the upper 80s and humidity staying even lower. Little to no chance of rainfall is possible during the afternoon hours, making for a great Monday to get outdoors. Temperatures are expected to quickly warm back up through Tuesday and Wednesday, with each day getting back into the mid to upper 90s, but by Wednesday night, a slightly better chance of showers and storms will enter the area. The best chances of precipitation and storms arrive Thursday morning, which will help keep temperatures in the mid-80s by Thursday afternoon. This temperature forecast persists for Friday before slightly warmer weather and more limited rain chances return for next weekend.
