Tracking a hot Labor Day weekend with little chance of rainfall

TODAY: I'm tracking a mostly clear and quiet start to the day as temperatures begin in the mid-70s. By the afternoon hours, temperatures will once again warm into the upper 90s, with humidity driving heat indexes into the 105-108 degree range. This is why another ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day will be in effect today until the heat eventually subsides this evening. Only isolated chances of showers and storms are possible today, and these will be focused mainly near the lake and the I-44 corridor this afternoon. Throughout the day, winds will be shifting into the north at 5-10 mph as a backdoor cold front enters the area, gradually bringing relief from extreme feels-like temperatures.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking any storm chances coming to an end this evening as temperatures begin to cool down, resulting in mostly clear sky conditions the rest of the night. Temperatures by the end of the night will drop into the low 70s as winds blow out of the northeast at 5-10 mph.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking a slightly "cooler" day on Sunday thanks to the backdoor cold front passing through the area today. Temperatures are still expected to get into the mid-90s by the afternoon hours, and isolated storms will be possible during the peak heat of the day, but luckily, humidity will be on the lower end, so heat index values exceeding 105 degrees are not expected. Monday, Labor Day, will be a similar story, with mostly sunshine and temperatures above average by the afternoon hours. A mostly dry and hot forecast continues for Tuesday and Wednesday, with hotter weather expected each day, but by Thursday and Friday, slightly better chances for showers and storms will enter the area. This will help the high pressure currently keeping Mid-Missouri so hot further break down, leading to slightly cooler temperatures by next weekend.
