Tracking extreme heat the next few days

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and hot, lows in the upper 70s.

TOMORROW: Dangerously hot with highs in the mid-upper 90s. Feels like temperatures around 110. Stay indoors and remember to stay hydrated.

EXTENDED: Dangerous heat continues the next few days as upper high pressure is centered directly overhead, pushing temperatures to the mid-upper 90s across the region. With dew points in the upper 70s, the heat index could top 110 degrees area wide, making it very dangerous to do any strenuous activity outdoors for extended periods of time. The ridge begins to break down toward mid-late week, opening us up to more disturbances along the edge of the jet stream. Those disturbances may bring chances of showers and storms between Thursday and Friday, some of which could bring brief heavy rain and gusty winds. A northwest upper wind could allow temperatures to drop back into the mid-upper 80s from the end of the week through the weekend.
