Tracking more thunderstorms tonight, severe risk by Friday night

TONIGHT: Storms will return by dinnertime across southern Missouri and spread across the area overnight. Some small hail is possible, but severe storms will stay south of I-44. Temperatures remain mild, in the upper 40s and low 50s.

TOMORROW: Rain will clear out around sunrise, with partly sunny skies in the afternoon. Highs will reach into the upper 60s.

EXTENDED: A warm front will move through the area Thursday night, with a few storms possible into the morning. Most of Friday should be dry, with highs jumping to the upper 70s and near 80 degrees. An ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day has been issued from 5 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday, due to the threat of severe storms as a cold front passes through Friday night. There is some uncertainty about how early storms might arrive; an earlier arrival could increase the chance of severe weather along a line of thunderstorms. Storms on Friday night could produce damaging winds above 60 mph, hail larger than an inch, and a risk of tornadoes. Rain chances will decrease quickly by Saturday morning, leading to a dry and mild weekend in the 50s and 60s.
