Tracking cold temperatures to ring in the new year

TONIGHT: Temperatures will drop into the 30s after sunset, approaching freezing as we ring in the new year. Clouds will start rolling in late overnight as a dry cold front passes through the area.

NEW YEAR'S DAY: Cloudy in the morning, then partly sunny in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 30s.

EXTENDED: Clouds will linger through the end of the week as a system tracks south of the area on Friday, but we stay dry and near average, warming a few degrees into the low 40s. Expect lots of sunshine on Saturday with similar temperatures. A warmup begins by Sunday, bringing us to the mid to upper 40s, and we warm further into the upper 50s on Monday. The forecast for next week is uncertain, but a gradual cooldown out of the 50s seems likely.
