Tracking increased sunshine and warmer temperatures
TODAY: Monday is a warm and breezy day. Thanks to southwest winds around 10 mph that may gust around 15-20 mph at times, we will warm into the upper 50s to near 60 this afternoon. This will be with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies. Still, we don't expect overcast conditions, so don't leave the sunglasses behind.
TONIGHT: Overnight, we'll have a wind shift in two waves. One comes along a trough of low pressure around the dinner hour. This will be a weak shift to a westerly breeze. Then, we'll have a more pronounced shift to northerly flow behind the trough. This will bring more direct northerly winds, and possibly even a chance for showers in the east. After midnight, there is a low chance for showers from Macon to Montgomery City. Overnight, temperatures remain above freezing, in the mid-30s by sunrise.
EXTENDED: Temperatures remain mild, with a return to westerly and southwesterly winds Tuesday. The return to southwest winds may be slow, but that won't matter much, as we stay mild. Expect highs a bit warmer on Tuesday thanks to more sunshine. Wednesday brings a better chance at showers with a more pronounced shortwave trough passing through aloft. This will still only yield about a 20-30% chance of showers, again primarily in the east. As we see moisture struggle to fill in ahead of this system until it gets east of 63, we'll see another slim chance for rain with less than a tenth of an inch likely across the region. Sunshine and mild air dominates the forecast from Thursday through the weekend.
