Tracking a cold start to Thursday

TODAY: Thursday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day for the cold that has returned this morning. Of course, we're below freezing this morning and that will keep slick conditions around, but the cold itself will be dangerous with prolonged exposure, as wind chills are already hovering just above and below zero. High temperatures will climb nicely back into the 20s, but windchills will remain in the teens for much of the day.

TONIGHT: We won't be quite as cold overnight into Friday morning, but we remain chilly, with lows in the low teens, feeling like single digits.

EXTENDED: Friday will bring a warmup. However, the warm front that brings the warmer air may stir a chance for rain/snow showers. Temperatures will be close to the freezing mark through the lowest part of the atmosphere, and there's plenty of dry air to go along with it. If we see precipitation it will be very light and not impactful. Rain fills in late Friday night into Saturday. After rain through the day, a chance for a quick change to snow comes Saturday night. Little if any accumulation is likely here. Cold air fills in Sunday and keeps us cold into next week. Our next chance for snow comes Tuesday.
