Tracking the coldest air through Tuesday morning
TODAY: Monday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day as the bitter cold continues. We'll have a sunny day with a few partly cloudy skies through the day along with a south and west wind, but we'll struggle to warm above the teens, so expect a frigid day all day. Wind chills may be as cold as 10 below this morning, and hold near low single digits at best this afternoon.
TONIGHT: Overnight we see the coldest air as another arctic cold front returns to drop lows overnight into the 0 to 10 below range in the north. Actual wind chills will reach 10 to 20 below zero.
EXTENDED: We expect the coldest air Tuesday morning, which will be dangerous to be in for prolonged periods. Highs will reach the low teens. More moderate temperatures are expected Wednesday morning, with lows in the teens, which will climb into the 30s by the afternoon, thanks to south winds. We will remain in this slightly warmer air on Thursday with highs still expected in the 30s, but with a northwest wind and a chance at a few flurries from a clipper system. We do not expect measurable snowfall at this time. Highs on Friday remain in the 30s, but we look to warm into the 40s over the weekend.
