Tracking winter weather taking over the area tonight
TONIGHT: I'm tracking a wintry mix entering the area throughout the evening, becoming more widespread in coverage after 8-9 PM. For areas along I-70, sleet and snow can be expected, with better chances for consistent snow to the north. To the south, freezing rain will be the main concern overnight. An ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day will go into effect this evening and last throughout Monday morning due to this system.
TOMORROW: I'm tracking a transition from a wintry mix to widespread snow throughout Sunday afternoon with strong wind gusts in the forecast. With accumulating snow and these strong winds, travel will be extremely difficult throughout the day. EXTENDED: I'm tracking travel impacts lasting into Monday morning as this winter storm exits the region. A mostly dry period is expected next week, but the trade-off will be the arctic air that follows this system. Temperatures by Monday afternoon will be in the mid to upper teens, and wind chills will make it feel even colder. A very gradual warmup is expected by the end of the week as temperatures eventually get into the upper 20s by Thursday afternoon.
