Tracking cooler temperatures and possible winter precipitation
TODAY: Tuesday will be the beginnings of cooler air, which may be quite prolonged after a mild stretch through the holidays. Temperatures are cooling through the morning behind an area of low pressure that is exiting the region. Cool air will wrap in and drop temperatures into the 30s by the afternoon, but it will also try to turn what light rain we have left, into snow. No accumulations are expected, but a flurries will be possible in the north through noon. This moisture exits, leaving us mostly dry the rest of the day, but we stay cloudy. With winds from the northwest around 10-20 mph gusting to 30-40 mph, we'll feel like 20s all afternoon.
TONIGHT: Clouds stick around, and while we expect to remain mostly dry, a few snow flurries will be possible overnight. No accumulations are expected. Temperatures fall into the mid-20s.
EXTENDED: We'll start as cold as we have in the last week come Wednesday morning. With this cold, we'll have some low clouds that will be tempted to stick around. Even with a few rays of sunshine through the day, we'll likely keep highs in the 30s and feel like 20s. Another clipper system is quick to roll through on Thursday. This will bring overcast skies, a slight warmup to near 40 during the afternoon, and a chance for flurries. No significant accumulations are expected thanks to light precipitation and warm ground temperatures. While we all have a chance at a trace, it's unlikely for most. The best chance at an inch or more currently lies north of Macon. Friday will bring another shot of cooler air with highs near freezing and more sunshine. The cold settles in for the weekend. We'll likely stay dry through most of Saturday, but Confidence is high in a system bringing some type of precipitation some time Sunday through Monday. This could bring winter impacts to the region, but details this far out are uncertain. Stay tuned for more.
