Tracking near average temperatures on Thursday before Friday storm chances

TODAY: Thursday is mild, with highs in the mid-80s and dewpoints in the low 60s. We will feel like 80s today, under partly cloudy skies by the afternoon, after starting clear and in the 60s.

TONIGHT: Clouds increase by sunset, ahead of a chance for showers and thunderstorms generally after midnight that move in from the west. Temperatures will remain near 70 through the early morning Friday.

EXTENDED: Friday brings two chances for rain. The first in the morning will be widespread, with scattered showers and weak thunderstorms. A break comes around noon through the afternoon, before limited instability leads to another chance for storms by the evening. This will be more isolated, but offer a better chance at a strong to severe storm. Threats will primarily be wind and hail, but an isolated tornado can't be ruled out, especially west of HWY 63 and north of I-70. Whatever develops will be along and ahead of a cold front which will push south through the overnight into Saturday morning. Storms will weaken overnight, and pose little to no severe threat as they become more widespread along the front. Rain will exit Saturday morning to the south, leaving Saturday afternoon drier. We may still reach near 90 as we'll be near the front on Saturday, but cooler weather and clearer conditions are expected on Sunday, when highs are back in the low 80s. We'll stay dry and relatively cool on Monday, but heat returns Tuesday.
