Allergy season update and forecast

The spring allergy season continues to push on. Pollen and mold counts have remained into high and very high levels the last month.

The current pollen season forecast looks to remain high into Friday with very high levels into the weekend and early next week.

Tree pollen season was two to three weeks ahead of schedule this year meaning that the close to it will come ahead of schedule and begin to wind down in the next week or so. Grass pollen levels remain higher into the summer months. Mold levels have been higher due to the increased rainfall recently but are expected to fall ahead of a drier weekend.

Beyond current pollen season locally, winds in the lower level jet stream can also impact pollen counts. If we have winds out of the north, tree pollen levels can increase as the pollen levels in Iowa and northern states run just behind our norms for tree pollen.
