Tracking isolated storms tonight, widespread rain and storms Thursday

TONIGHT: Increasing clouds with a few isolated thunderstorms late. A couple storms could produce hail. Lows in the upper 50s to around 60.

TOMORROW: Partly sunny and warm with highs near 80. A few storms are possible by afternoon.

EXTENDED: Storms have developed across western Iowa and will continue to pop up farther south, out to the west of Kansas City this evening. They could develop into a line with time that works its way east into Mid-Missouri, likely after about 10:00 p.m. By this time, storms will be running into a less favorable environment to sustain severe storms. However, a couple could hold together and bring the potential of 1" hail. Storms will fizzle out a few hours after midnight, and we'll be dry and mild for Wednesday morning as we start out near 60 degrees. Tomorrow is another warm day as a warm front will be north of us with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. There could be a couple storms pop up in the afternoon, but severe risks are low. As a cold front works in from the west on Thursday, we'll be tracking widespread rain and thunderstorms by mid-afternoon. Those storms could contain heavy downpours, isolated strong winds and dime to quarter size hail. We are currently in a level 1 severe risk on Thursday for that lower end threat. Showers and storms exit likely before sunrise on Friday, depending on how quickly the front moves east. Friday is cooler, but we'll be largely dry with highs in the mid-70s. The active weather continues into the weekend with low chances for rain and a few storms on Saturday and Sunday. Overall rain totals over the next 5 days will add up to 1-2". Strong storms return to the forecast by the middle of next week.
