Tracking rounds of wet and wintry weather

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with showers early, shifting to snow at times into Wednesday morning. Lows in the lower 30s.

TOMORROW: Rain and snow likely, dusting to 2" of accumulation possible by late evening. Slushy roads possible. Highs in the lower 30s.

EXTENDED: Low pressure that brought blizzard conditions to the Plains on Christmas Day is drifting back in our direction, bringing waves of precipitation to Mid-Missouri. Tonight, showers move in after sunset, eventually transitioning over to light snowfall overnight into Wednesday morning. Slushy roads will be possible for the morning commute, but precipitation will likely flip back and forth between rain and snow during the day depending on surface air temperatures. Road impacts will be somewhat limited given warm road temperatures, but there could be slushy spots into Wednesday night as precipitation ends as snow into early Thursday morning. We'll see a break in precipitation on Thursday afternoon until it wraps back around low pressure to our east. It could start off as a rain/snow mix that transitions to snow again into Friday morning, adding a bit more snow accumulation. Snow totals through Thursday morning will be around a dusting to 2". Skies clear out on Friday with temperatures reaching the lower 40s. We'll be dry into the weekend with highs on Saturday in the mid-40s with sunshine, and chilly on New Year's Eve with upper 30s during the day.
