Power outages reported in Mid-Missouri as storms hit area, cancelations also announced

Inclement weather began passing through Mid-Missouri Wednesday evening and power outages have already been reported throughout the area.

In Cole County, Three Rivers Electric is showing 502 customers without power and Ameren Missouri had 165 customers without power at its peak. The Ameren number has come down to 140. The storms in Cole County have led to the Jefferson City Jaycees Fair to cancel all of its events planned for Wednesday evening.

A tornado warning was issued for Moniteau County around 8:40 p.m. and storms passed through Cole County, with the Missouri State Highway Patrol reporting on its social media that dime-sized hail could be seen in Jefferson City.

Dirk Protzman, of Cole County EMS, told ABC 17 News that there was baseball-sized hail seen in Cole County, but there has not been any major damage.

A RAVE alert was issued at 10:20 p.m., stating water was covering Loesh Road.

Power outages hit surrounding counties in high numbers

Outages have been reported in bulk in several surrounding counties.

In Morgan County, 2,473 Ameren users were without power at its peak. The number quickly came back down to three users between 10-10:30 p.m. The total came back up to 92 at 10:54 p.m. There were 648 Co-Mo Electric Cooperative customers are affected at its peak, with the total coming down to 629 at 10:37 p.m.

In Maries County, 807 electricity consumers are without power between Intercounty Electric Cooperative Association, 623, Three Rivers, 179, and Gasconade Electric Cooperative, 5.

Miller County saw an uptick in outages with 914 Ameren users without power at its peak. That number came back down to 12 shortly after. Forty-nine Three Rivers customers were also affected in the county.

There are 187 Ameren customers without power in Osage County.

In Moniteau County, outages peaked with 166 between Co-Mo Electric Cooperative, 75, and Three Rivers, 41. Those numbers have since come down to a total of 124, with 82 for Co-Mo Electric Cooperative and 42 for Three Rivers.

Moniteau County Sheriff Tony Wheatley told ABC 17 News in an email that tornado sirens went off in California and Tipton, but no damage was reported.

“The worst was near High Point. I sent deputies into the area to monitor the storm and report damage. The only thing that was found so far was a tree down and that was it so far,” Wheatley said in an email.

The ABC 17 News Stormtrack Weather Team warned of the possibility of flash flooding in the area. The chance of storms led to the cancelation of the annual Missouri 340 race.
