Tracking a hot afternoon before the return of storms

TODAY: Building clouds, summery with highs in the upper 90s. Heat index from 102-106. Scattered storms are possible throughout the late afternoon.

TOMORROW: Widespread showers and storms during the morning becoming more isolated late in the day. Highs plummet to below average in the low 80s.

EXTENDED: A few afternoon storms could produce high winds gusts and small hail as a cold front moves in from the north on Sunday. As the front pushes south tomorrow we'll see a quick bout of relief from the brutal heat with below-average temperatures. That front is then expected to surge northward Tuesday into Wednesday, triggering more afternoon storms and also sending highs back into the low 90s. We'll dip below average again to end the week as yet another front pushes through, with highs in the mid-80s Friday and Saturday and lows in the mid-60s. Rain totals for the week will range between 1-2".
