Mizzou drops second game of the season to No. 9 Ole Miss

Coach Drinkwitz takes questions after loss at Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. (KMIZ)

The Tigers dropped their second road game of the year to the Rebels, 31-3.

No. 13 Mizzou showed flashes of production on offense, but couldn't string together enough to take down No. 9 Ole Miss.

After forcing a punt on the opening drive, Mizzou took over on its own 16, and proceeeded to drive down the field and into the red zone. The drive stalled out on the 10, but kicker Blake Craig punched one through the uprights to take a 3-0 lead.

The Rebels responded in a hurry, taking just seven plays to march down the field, and get into the end zone to retake the lead. Both sides forced punts to keep the 7-3 scoreline at the first quarter, before the stale mate was broken again.

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss connected with Horatio Fields for the team's second touchdown of the day, and taking a double-digit lead. Mizzou attempted to answer back in the passing game, with receiver Cayden Lee reigning in a pass for a 43-yard gain, but no points were able to come of it. The empty possession allowed Chambliss to drive down the field once again and go up 21-3 into halftime.

A scoreless third quarter proved to be a better showing for the 'Death Row Defense' but the Rebels would make it back on a Chambliss rushing touchdown for his fourth score of the day to open the fourth.

A final field goal from Ole Miss would be the nail in the coffin, securing the 31-3 win for the Rebels.

Offensively, the Tigers were out gained on the ground by more than 200 yards, and running back Jamal Roberts was held to just 39 yards. Austin Simmons finished the day with 339 yards and an interception, with Donovan Olugbode getting past 100 yards receiving.

Up Next - Mizzou will take the bye week before heading to Fayetteville to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, Oct. 31.
