Tracking another round of morning showers and a hot afternoon

SUNDAY: Isolated showers possible before noon. Mostly cloudy with highs nearing 90 degrees. Another round of scattered storms is possible near dinnertime but will clear up in time for fireworks tonight.

4TH OF JULY: Dry and hot with highs jumping to the mid-90s. High humidity will send the heat index to 105+ degrees. Skies stay mostly clear for fireworks with a chance for isolated showers.

EXTENDED: A Weather Alert Day has been issued from Monday until Wednesday afternoon as each day faces a risk of the heat index surpassing 105 degrees. The worst of the heat finally breaks late week as the upper-level pattern weakens and rain chances return by Thursday. Still, highs are trending to the low 90s late week with more rain possible next weekend. For more on the brutal warmup on the way, visit our Insider Blog.
