Tracking another hot afternoon before evening storms

TODAY: Hot and breezy with highs in the mid-90s. Heat indices from 98-100 degrees. Storms are likely near sundown, particularly north of I-70.

TOMORROW: A hot summer day with highs in the mid to low 90s. Another round of late evening storms is possible.

EXTENDED: A slow-moving cold front to our north triggered storms across parts of Iowa and Nebraska overnight and could do the same for us this evening, likely after 7:00 p.m. Ingredients for severe weather seem to be falling into place, so there's a chance storms that develop could become strong with damaging winds and hail possible. Instability decreases with time overnight, so it would be a short window for severe, likely between about 7:00 p.m. and midnight. The front stalls out across the area Thursday, though we'll still reach the low to mid-90s. Those who end up north of the front will see temperatures a few degrees cooler. Thursday night, another round of storms is possible along the front, but the severe ingredients we need to trigger strong storms don't look to be lining up. If we have storms form, they'll diminish by early Friday morning. The weekend is looking less humid, but temperatures will still be above average with highs in the lower 90s both Saturday and Sunday. The brutal heat also looks to continue into next week with highs in the upper 90s to near 100 on Monday and Tuesday, along with a heat index between 101-103. Storm chances look to pick up a bit more toward mid-late next week as the high pressure ridge breaks down a bit.
