Tracking an intense warmup and weekend storms

TODAY: Patchy fog early; temperatures rise to the mid to upper 80s under mostly sunny skies. Storms are possible in the evening, particularly to the north and west.

TOMORROW: Summer heat arrives with highs in the low 90s and heat indices approaching triple digits.

EXTENDED: Storms on Saturday evening could potentially form into an isolated strong system, bringing severe risks to portions of Mid-MO. Damaging winds and hail are possible, though the threat is conditional on storm development, so we're going to keep an eye on how Saturday night plays out. A Weather Alert Day may be needed for Sunday morning storms if the potential for widespread severe weather becomes evident. If storms don't develop, Sunday is looking hot and quite humid with highs in the lower 90s and a heat index in the upper 90s. Dew points will sit in the mid-70s during the day on Monday and Tuesday, sending our heat index values in the 103-105 range. A front will work through the area on Wednesday into Thursday, cooling us ever so slightly into the upper 80s to around 90 and bringing a chance of showers/storms Wednesday night into Thursday. We'll warm back into the 90s by Friday as high pressure keeps us in its grip into next weekend.
