Tracking warm air this week, before an active pattern returns cooler air next week

WEDNESDAY: The warmest day of 2022 so far, Wednesday will bring abundant sunshine, and highs approaching 80 degrees. Some will fall in the upper 70's, with others actually hitting 80, especially south of I-70. Winds bringing this warmth out of the south will also exacerbate fire concerns again this afternoon. Expect sustained winds around 10-15 mph out of the southwest, with gusts as high as 20+mph. This partnered with low humidity and added warmth will make burning dangerous.

TONIGHT: A cold front will approach from the north Wednesday night. This will cool temperatures fairly quickly tonight. After a day with highs near 80, a dinner hour temperature in the mid 60's will feel relatively cool. Temperatures drop into the high 30's overnight. Without moisture to work with, this front is a dry one.

EXTENDED: Starting cool, temperatures will be stuck in the upper 50s on Thursday. Clouds increase ahead of a warm front on Friday as temperatures rise back into the low to mid-60s. Rain holds off until Friday night ahead of a cold front that is expected to move across the Midwest on Saturday. Ahead of the front, temperatures reach near 70 again on Saturday afternoon. As we get new information about the setup this weekend, it's looking more likely that we will see showers and a few thunderstorms Saturday afternoon along a cold front. Right now, it looks like we will avoid severe weather, as that potential is greater to our north. Behind this system comes another on Sunday. This will again bring us another chance for rain and thunder, but with this system, severe potential misses us to the south. Either way, the weekend looks wet, with cooler air infiltrating mid-Missouri next week.
