Tracking dangerous cold and treacherous roads to close the weekend

SUNDAY: A Weather Alert Day is in effect to end the weekend for dangerous cold conditions today. Snow flurries will be possible before sunrise with low temperatures falling into the single digits. Wind chills will plummet to the negative teens so stay indoors as much as possible today. Frostbite can set in in as little as 30 minutes with these wind chills. Highs reach the upper teens but it'll still feel near zero degrees throughout the day.

MONDAY: Slightly warmer to start with lows in the mid-20s. This warmup follows us into the afternoon as highs rebound to the low 40s under sunny skies.

EXTENDED: Tuesday will see even warmer temperatures as highs hit the mid-40s. This is short-lived, however, as another midweek system threatens to bring a return of wintry conditions. Precipitation chances still remain to be seen, though bitter cold will be on the way to end the week. Highs drop back to the 20s and teens from Wednesday through Friday, but models hint at a small warmup next weekend. For more on the dangerous cold today, visit our Insider Blog.
