Tracking warmer temperatures, daily storm chances this week

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy and mild with lows in the upper 60s.

TOMORROW: Partly to mostly sunny and warm with highs in the upper 80s to around 90. Heat index between 93-95. A spot storm is possible in the afternoon and diminishes by sunset.

EXTENDED: Winds have started to shift south at the surface and to the southwest in the upper levels of the atmosphere, sending warmer and more humid air our way for the rest of this week. With this added moisture, we'll have a low chance of daily thunderstorms that will be driven by daytime heating through Thursday, diminishing with sunset each night. High temperatures reach the upper 80s to near 90 the next few days, and with dew points climbing back into the 70s we'll likely see a heat index between 93-96 through the end of the week. By Friday, a deep low-pressure system to our northwest aloft will push a cold front our way, bringing the potential for scattered to widespread showers and storms to Mid-Missouri through the day and evening. Some of those storms could be strong across northern Missouri, bringing gusty winds and heavy rain. Another disturbance could produce a few showers or storms along the front on Saturday, but overall the weekend looks hot and humid with highs near 90. Upper-level high pressure builds over the south and Midwest early next week, sending temperatures into the low to mid-90s. We'll be tracking the potential to see near triple-digit heat indices for the first half of the week.
