Tracking a cooler afternoon before heating up tomorrow

THURSDAY: Some leftover cloud cover looks to be a little slow to clear out this morning. We’ll be able to break it up by this evening, but it’ll hold highs in the low to mid 80’s this afternoon.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy skies will stick around tonight, with overnight lows falling into the upper 60’s.

EXTENDED: We’re going to try to heat up tomorrow into the low 90’s, but some clouds returning for the first part of the day are complicating matters. Heat indices will push into the upper 90’s where we see a little more sunshine. All of that heat and humidity will fuel some strong thunderstorms if they can form up in Iowa and Nebraska. Those look like they’ll try to stay north overnight but could clip us Saturday morning north of I-70. Another round of strong storms looks possible Saturday afternoon as this system slowly moves through. A few showers look to be leftover on Sunday, but won’t pose a severe threat to close out the weekend. We’re trending drier to start next week, with a chance to dip into some cooler weather with highs in the low 80’s.
