INSIDER BLOG: Tracking a complex stormy forecast ending the week

Some more storm chances loom right around the corner. However, multiple rounds of storms will complicate how this all unfolds. As hot and humid as we'll be, we'll be tracking some form of a severe threat with each round, along with a flooding threat.

Here's what we know

Our ridge that's kept things quiet will start to flatten out. That will open the door to track multiple disturbances through the area along with a slow-moving frontal system. A warm front will lift through the area Thursday, opening the Gulf of Mexico once again. The persistent southerly flow will saturate the atmosphere, so moisture will be plentiful. A cold front will start to push into the area Friday stall out. With a slow-moving front, and lots of moisture around, rounds of efficient rain-producers could affect many of the same locations.

Multiple Rounds

Thursday

Things will get started early Thursday morning. A cluster of storms will fire in southern Nebraska and head east. Timing on those looking to be in the mid-late morning hours and last into the early afternoon.

Once those move out, we'll have time to recharge the atmosphere. Small boundaries laid out by the morning round of storms should help spark an evening round, favoring many of the same locations.

Friday

Friday we could be looking at a pretty similar situation. A morning round of storms will hold all the cards with what kind of environment will be left by the afternoon. A slow-moving weak cold front will help aid thunderstorm development.

Weekend

That front could stall over the area into the weekend, providing more shots at storms Saturday and Sunday. The severity of those is tough to see this far out.

Impacts

Right now, the primary threat looks to be damaging winds where we see these storms develop. However, it's far too soon to rule out any form of severe weather. We're also going to be likely tracking a flooding threat, with storms training over the same locations.

Complications

This is shaping up to be a scenario in which the preceding round of storms will greatly impact the next one. That leaves us with a pretty uncertain and messy forecast. One domino has to start falling before we can get a good idea where the next one might. We'll be tracking the latest all day long-be sure to stay up to date with the latest forecast with this complex forecast.
