Tracking the return of some cooler weather

sunny end

FRIDAY: Cooler air is here to close out the week. Temperatures will struggle to warm up much from this morning, only reaching the middle 30’s. One thing helping matters out will be another healthy dose of sunshine throughout the day. Winds will be out of the north, reinforcing that cool air, but won’t be blustery, around 5-10 mph.

TONIGHT: With a cool airmass in place and partly cloudy skies overhead, temperatures will dip once again tonight. Lows look to bottom out around 20, with a wind chill around 10 in some spots by daybreak.

EXTENDED: After a cold start, clouds will increase throughout the day. Temperatures will be a bit warmer, in the upper 30’s. Our next storm system could start impacting mid-Missouri as early as Saturday night. A wintry mix is possible but should transition to rain during the early morning hours of Sunday. No impacts are expected, with as light as some of that sleet or freezing drizzle will be. Showers will be possible throughout the day Sunday, but will pick up Sunday night. We’ll be tracking temperatures that could try to bring back a wintry mix overnight, but would be for far northern portions of the viewing area. More of us have a better chance at something wintry on Monday, as this system packs up and moves east. A few light snow showers will be possible, but any accumulations looks fairly light. The heavier snow will be to our north and west. Next week’s looking like January, with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the upper 30’s and low 40’s. We’re tracking another brief shot at snow Wednesday.
