Mother Nature brings extreme weather to close out October

MID-MISSOURI'S FIRST SNOW

Light snow fell across parts of mid-Missouri yesterday. The main rain/snow line as from Mexico through Sedalia. The official total at Columbia Regional Airport was 0.4"-- a combination of snow and sleet.

Some reports near Columbia were as high as 1", especially on the north side of town.

RECORD OCTOBER COLD

This is all ahead of a major blast of arctic cold which shattered many records for coldest high temperatures for many across the Great Plains and the front range of the Rockies.

And it was a VERY cold start to the morning in Potomac, Montana. Temperatures dropped to a numbing 29 degrees below zero. It's one of the coldest temperatures ever recorded in the month of October in the lower 48 of the United States.

HISTORIC ICE STORM

As for the crippling ice storm Oklahomans are facing... I'll let Twitter do the talking.

Unreal scenes coming out of the Sooner State.

This ice event is particularly impactful is due to leafing still remaining on many trees-- in some cases doubling or tripling the ice load on branches.
