Tracking hot and humid next few days, late week rain
TONIGHT: Mostly clear and muggy with lows in the low 70s.
TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and hot with highs in the low 90s. Heat index in the upper 90s to around 100.
EXTENDED: Heat and humidity will be the rule over the next couple of days with upper high pressure centered over the Midwest. We'll see highs in the 90s through Thursday, with heat indices in the upper 90s to around 100. By Thursday afternoon, we'll begin to see the impacts of the remnants of Hurricane Laura, which is currently expected to make landfall sometime late Wednesday night or very early Thursday morning. This remnant low will track north and then take a hard jog east by Friday, but some of the outer bands may make it as far north as Mid-Missouri Thursday afternoon/evening. By Friday, the best chance of rain associated with this system will be along and south of I-44. Over the weekend, we'll be tracking a cold front that will bring an 8-10 degree temperature drop, along with a chance of scattered showers and storms. The front stays mainly south on Sunday, but pushes back north on Monday as a warm front. Monday into Tuesday morning will be our best shot at seeing widespread rainfall. Amounts will range between 1-2" by Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures remain cooler than average for much of next week as we approach Labor Day weekend.
