Tracking a cool but rainy Friday before extreme heat takes over

TODAY: I'm tracking scattered showers continuing throughout the afternoon hours with increasing chances of rumbles of thunder before sundown, although the coverage of this activity overall is expected to decrease, so dry time for some can be expected. Where storms develop, locally heavy downpours and lightning can be expected. Due to the rain and the cloud cover, temperatures will struggle to get into the mid-70s throughout the afternoon. Winds will be out of the southeast at 5-10 mph, gusting up to 15 mph.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking showers and storms gradually moving south and east overnight as temperatures slowly drop back down into the upper 60s. Winds will be shifting into the southwest at 5-10 mph.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking lingering showers for some Saturday morning, more specifically south of I-70, but most will be experiencing drier conditions. With this comes a noticeable chance as another heat dome takes over Mid-Missouri. By Saturday afternoon, temperatures are expected to get back up into the upper 80s, with humidity making it feel closer to 95-100 degrees. The extreme heat is expected to continue throughout Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, with actual air temperatures getting into the low to mid 90s each afternoon and heat index values nearing 105-110 degrees every day during this period. This has triggered a heat advisory for all of Central Missouri during this timeframe, and because of this, a set of ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Days will be in effect for each day. There's a potential for another disturbance Tuesday into Wednesday, which will help at least slowly bring down temperatures and humidity throughout the backend of next week.
