Tracking strong to severe storms today that lead to a cool end to the weekend

TODAY: I'm tracking isolated to scattered storms during the morning hours as temperatures start in the low to mid 60s. Some of these could be stronger, producing heavy downpours, lightning, gusty winds, and small hail, briefly having the opportunity to produce larger hail and stronger winds as instability builds after sunrise as these storms move east. By the afternoon hours, isolated stronger storms will still be possible, having a slightly better potential of becoming severe as temperatures warm into the low 80s, allowing for more instability, but the best chance of severe weather is expected this evening.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking a more widespread line of strong to severe storms moving in from Northwest Missouri after sundown, making it to Columbia and Jefferson City near 10-11 PM, which is why an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day will be in effect. This will bring heavy downpours, plenty of lightning, and for the strongest portions of the storms, damaging winds and large hail will be the main concern, although a brief spin-up tornado can't be ruled out. Flooding will also be a concern as impressive rainfall rates can be expected with this storm system.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking a quiet, cooler stretch of weather to end the weekend and start the new week. Sunday morning, temperatures begin in the low 60s, only warming into the low 70s as sunshine makes a return. Monday, temperatures start even cooler, beginning in the mid-50s, warming into the mid-70s by the afternoon as sunshine persists. A gradual warmup can be expected throughout the rest of the week as low 80s, which is right around average for this time of the year, return to the forecast. With this, more chances of showers and storms can also be expected, beginning Tuesday evening, sticking around daily for the rest of the week.
