Tracking severe storms this afternoon and evening, more storms on Friday

THIS AFTERNOON: An ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day is in effect for possible severe storms this afternoon and evening. Storms may first develop in the midafternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. and move west to east, producing damaging winds, large hail, and a possible tornado. Another line of severe storms will develop around the dinner hour, impacting Brunswick, Marshall, Sedalia, and Warsaw as early as 5 to 6 p.m. Storms will head east and hit Columbia, Jeff City, Moberly, and Osage Beach by 7 to 8 p.m., then move into eastern Missouri near sunset. All severe hazards are possible with this line of storms.

TONIGHT: Storms die down quickly after sunset, with rain clearing out by midnight for most.

EXTENDED: Thursday is mostly dry and mostly sunny, with highs in the upper 70s. Some isolated afternoon storms are possible, but they are unlikely to become severe. However, Friday is also an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day for the risk of severe storms in the evening. This cold front will be stronger and bring a cooldown for the weekend into the 50s and 60s. Rain totals are expected to reach between an inch and two inches by the end of the week.
