Tracking strong to severe storms before a dry weekend

TODAY: I'm tracking a system of storms moving into parts of Central Missouri during the morning hours, likely bringing heavy downpours and rumbles of thunder before exiting around noon. Temperatures will start in the mid-50s, warming into the low 70s by the afternoon hours. Another round of storms is expected by the late afternoon hours, where the greatest concern for severe storms will be for Western and Southern Missouri. This will be an isolated risk, but the potential for all severe modes, including large hail and tornadoes, is why an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day will go into effect.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking a more widespread round of storms moving into Central Missouri, entering areas near Sedalia and Brunswick just after midnight. This timeframe will carry the best potential to produce more widespread severe storms, with damaging winds and spin-up tornadoes being the main concern. This will make it into areas like Columbia and Jefferson City by 3-4 am. As this system moves west to east, it will lose intensity, and eventually any severe risk will come to an end, which is why the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day will come to an end by the early morning hours of Saturday. Temperatures behind this system will cool into the low 50s by the end of the night.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking sky conditions clearing throughout Saturday as temperatures only warm into the mid-50s by the afternoon hours due to northwesterly winds at 5-10 mph with gusts up to 15 mph. Sunday will start cool with temperatures in the mid-30s, but sunshine and southwesterly winds at 8-12 mph with gusts up to 20 mph will help warm temperatures into the mid-60s by the afternoon hours. Warm and sunny weather will persist into Monday, and although it will still be warm on Tuesday, another potential for storms is on the way by Tuesday afternoon. Widespread rain and storms lingering into Wednesday morning will aid in dropping temperatures back down into the mid-50s by Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.
