Tracking a quiet afternoon before a warm but stormy Friday
TODAY: I'm tracking a mostly cloudy afternoon as winds shift into the south at 5-10 mph with gusts up to 15 mph. This will allow temperatures to gradually climb into the upper 50s and low 60s before sunset.
TONIGHT: I'm tracking a gradual overnight cooldown as clouds persist and winds pick up from the south at 10-15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. This will lead to temperatures only cooling into the mid-50s by the end of the night.
EXTENDED: I'm tracking a mix of clouds and sun on Friday morning in the east, but in the west, chances for showers and storms will lead to cloudier conditions. This rain is expected to trend down in coverage by mid-to-late morning. There is lower confidence in how quickly clouds will exit, introducing some uncertainty regarding our temperatures through the day, but it is still expected to get into the 70s by the afternoon. If temperatures do not get as warm as currently expected, there may not be as much of a chance for severe weather with Friday's first round of storms. There is a better chance of severe storms arriving with a cold front later in the night. This line of storms will move in after sunset, mainly introducing a possibility of damaging winds, but large hail and a few tornadoes will still be possible. Friday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day because of these storm chances. A quieter forecast is expected for the weekend before another chance of storms arrives by Tuesday of next week.
